International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB)

The United Nations proclaimed 22nd May as International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity related issues. The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Secretariat adopts a different theme every year to emphasize important aspect of biodiversity.

The themes chosen every year are action oriented and fit within the context of the ongoing United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, which highlights that biodiversity is the answer to several sustainable development challenges. From nature-based solutions and/or ecosystems-based approaches to climate, health issues, food and water security and sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better. The Global Biodiversity Framework sets out an ambitious plan to implement broad-based action to bring about a transformation in society’s relationship with biodiversity and to ensure that, by 2050, the shared vision of living in harmony with nature is fulfilled.

IDB has been celebrated by PBB every year since 2010 throughout the state with the technical & financial support of National Biodiversity Authority, Govt. of India. All the stakeholders are being involved to create biodiversity awareness and motivated to take up the activities for promoting conservation of biodiversity.
